The story behind the debate
Marvel and DC created the central superhero mythology of modern popular culture. DC's icons often feel like modern gods; Marvel became famous for heroes whose extraordinary powers sit beside ordinary flaws, jobs and relationships.
The case for Marvel
Marvel's heroes often live in recognizable cities and struggle with consequences outside costume. Spider-Man, the X-Men, Avengers and others thrive through character chemistry and a shared universe built for crossover storytelling.
The case for DC
Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman established the heroic templates later stories would reinterpret. DC's multiverse and tradition of ambitious standalone graphic novels allow creators to rebuild those icons in bold ways.
DC offers the strongest collection of archetypal heroes and landmark standalone stories. Marvel offers an interconnected universe and a conversational humanity that made generations of readers feel close to its characters.
